Happy New Year

Posted by admin on January 9th, 2009 filed in Community

Welcome

My name is Nick and I’ve lived in the beautiful village of Applecross for the past 37 years. I have managed Applecross Campsite since the semi-retirement of my parents Maureen & Clive in 2004.

Having lived here since childhood I have a pretty good understanding of what goes on in this remote highland community. Although there are a lot of of other websites
promoting Applecross, this is going to be different!

This website is primary designed to cater to visitors who wish to be kept informed about village life and general development in business and the community,
although I hope that everyone should find something here of interest. The site will be updated on a regular basis with fresh articles, not just with rehashed old website content.

I’ll keep you informed about upcoming events like the Applecross Dash (motorcycle run), the Seafood Festival or to be more accurate it’s replacement. The bi-annual Bealach cycle race, the Applecross Highland Games a favourite for many of the regular visitors, the upcoming Archaeological excavations, the Raft race, and of course any gossip which is printable and non liable!!!!!!!!

There will be dedicated pages for where to stay, eat & drink, things to do, archaeology, history and heritage and one to promote the new businesses that have been developing over the last few years.

Most of the posts will contain video from you-tube or photos to make your visit more entertaining (sorry, if you don’t have access to broadband).
There is a comments box at the bottom of the page for constructive feedback on the site and an RSS feed if you wish to be informed automatically of updated content.

This New Year has heralded a change for the better on the peninsula with the formation of a community company under the land reform act. This positive and pro-active step has been taken to safe guard the local fuel supply, but I’ll let Chris Ward, one of the directors, tell you about it in the next post.

    Hi Colin
I’ve been away and not managing to keep up with stuff for the last couple of months. The raft race is usually held in the last week of August. When it’s confirmed I’ll make a post about it.
